چکیده

Introduction Psychiatric manifestations in juvenile systemic lupus erythematosus (JSLE) are not uncommon, and they often pose diagnostic and therapeutic challenges. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) of the brain is often without abnormalities. Fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography (FDG PET) detects relative reductions in regional cerebral glucose metabolism, and has been suggested as a more sensitive diagnostic tool. We describe two cases of JSLE with CNS involvement and distinct psychiatric symptoms, in which FDG PET showed, marked metabolic disturbances that normalized with successful treatment.

Anticardiolipin Antibodies in Juvenile Rheumatoid Arthritis and Systemic Lupus Erythematosus

Background: Antiphospholipid antibody syndrome (APS) can either occur as a primary syndrome or associated with other autoimmune diseases such as systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). Anticardiolipin antibody (aCL) of IgG and/or IgM isotype in blood, measured by a standardized ELISA is the most acceptable laboratory criteria. APS IgG isotype, particularly IgG2 subclass is more strongly associated ...

This study was conducted to determine the pattern and prevalence of such lesions in SLE in Iranian children infected with SLE. Forty-eight patients, age between 3-16 yrs and male to female ratio of 7/1 were examined for the presence of cutaneous manifestations of SLE. The most co...

Purulent lupus panniculitis unmasked by FDG-PET/CT scan

RATIONALE Lupus panniculitis (LP) is a unique variant of cutaneous lupus erythematosus. Clinical manifestations are typically mild and include erythema, nodules, and small ulcers. In certain cases, diagnosing LP may be challenging. Skin overlying the typical subcutaneous inflammation may appear normal, and bacterial superinfections of the skin sometimes mask the underlying LP. It has been sugge...

Unusual F-18 FDG Uptake at the Ears of a Patient with Discoid Lupus Erythematosus Diskoid Lupus Eritamatozus

UNLABELLED A 55-year-old patient, who had undergone excisional biopsy of upper lip two years ago and diagnosed to have squamous cell carcinoma, was referred to us for evaluation with Fluorine-18 fluorodeoxyglucose (F-18 FDG) positron emission tomography (PET)/CT (F-18 FDG-PET/CT) scan. F-18 FDG-PET/CT scan was performed and the maximum intensity projection images (MIP) showed unusual FDG uptake...
